NRA Range Safety Officer Certification
The NRA Range Safety Officer certification is the “Gold Standard” for the firearms community. This class is for intermediate-level students who would like to become certified Range Safety Officers. The NRA Range Safety Officer (RSO) program was developed in response to the demand for a nationally recognized range safety officer certification.
To become an NRA Range Safety Officer, you must pass the RSO course and demonstrate that you possess the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to organizing, conducting, and supervising safe shooting activities and range operations.

Course Description: The NRA Range Safety Officer Certification course is a nine-hour course and is conducted in a classroom. This is an administrative course and there is no shooting. Range Safety Officer (RSO) candidates will learn the roles and responsibilities of an RSO; Range Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); range inspection; range rules; range briefings; emergency procedures; and firearm stoppages and malfunctions. Each Range Safety Officer Candidate will receive an RSO Student Study Guide, a Basic Firearm Training Program brochure, an NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, and an Instructor Application/Course Evaluation form. Candidates who are certified as RSOs will not be able to teach the related material.) RSO candidates need to be familiar with a wide range of pistol, rifle, and shotgun action types and must have high regard for the safe handling of firearms. This is a one-day training course. All applicants will be required to pass a written test with a 90% success rate. NRA Range Safety Officers must be 21 years of age or older.
Course Prerequisites: NRA Range Safety Officers should be experienced shooters and/or gun handlers, involved in many aspects of target shooting, training, and range supervision. The NRA encourages active shooters to learn more and become responsible for the safety of fellow shooters through this program.
